Hospital appointments:

Prof Sengupta performs inpatient and daycase urologic surgery at the following private hospitals:

  • Waverley Private Hospital, Mount Waverley
  • Epworth Eastern Hospital, Box Hill
  • Epworth Freemasons Hospital, East Melbourne

Prof Sengupta has particular interest, training and expertise in surgery for urologic cancers, such as radical prostatectomy by open or robotic (Da Vinci®) techniques, prostate brachytherapy, open, laparoscopic and partial nephrectomy, cystectomy with ileal conduit or neobladder diversion and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. Prof Sengupta also offers a full range of general urologic surgical procedures, including cystoscopy, trans-urethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or bladder tumours (TURBT), ureteroscopy, vasectomy, circumcision etc.

You may elect to have surgery at any of the above hospitals regardless of whether you have private health insurance. You will be provided with an estimate of Prof Sengupta's fees for surgical procedures. It is advisable to also check directly with the hospital and the anaesthetist's office regarding their fees. Usually, Medicare and private health insurance will cover part of the costs and you will be responsible for the remainder.

Prof Sengupta is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO or Consultant) at the Urology Department of Eastern Health, Box Hill, Victoria 3128, where he provides outpatient consulting, elective urologic surgery and emergency on-call services. As the uro-oncology lead, Prof Sengupta is responsible for developing and overseeing management pathways, convening weekly Uro-oncology multi-disciplinary meetings and implementing clinical trials of latest therapies for urologic cancers.

Please note that at public hospitals, patient care is shared between Prof Sengupta and his other colleagues within the Urology Unit, including trainee staff employed by the hospitals. In order to attend the hospital out-patients, you need your general practitioner to arrange a direct referral to the hospital.

After having a consultation with Prof Sengupta at his private rooms, you may elect to have surgical procedures performed at a public hospital. However, this requires you to be placed on the hospital's surgical waiting list, subsequent to which your care is provided by the hospital. In particular, Prof Sengupta has little control over the timing of your surgery and may not be directly involved in your further care.
